HHS Award Closeout

UG §200.343 requires the University to close awards within 90 days after project end even though some Federal awarding agencies such as National Institutes of Health (NIH) allow 120 calendar days to submit final reports.

For NIH award closeout, the University must submit a Final Federal Financial Report (FFR), Final Research Performance Progress Report (F-RPPR), and Final Invention Statement and Certification (FIS) within 120 calendar days of the end of the period of performance (project period). NIH may initiate a unilateral closeout if accurate final closeout reports are not submitted to NIH in a timely manner.   If the University fails to submit a timely final FFR, NIH will close the grant using the last accepted Federal Cash Transaction Report’s cash drawdown amount. The timeline chart below should be used as a reference to ensure timely closeout of an HHS award.
