Postdoctoral Research Associate – Institute for Functional and Regenerative Materials

Hiring Department: Institute for Functional and Regenerative Materials

Location:  Chicago, IL

Requisition ID: 1024149

Posting Close Date:  June 21, 2024

Highly motivated individuals are encouraged to apply for selective postdoctoral positions in the newly created Institute for Functional and Regenerative Materials at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Institute research is focused on two areas: i) Functional Imaging and ii) Functional Biomaterials.

Research areas within Functional Imaging include:

  • the study of relevant problems in hybrid materials, including liquid/solid interfaces in bio-compatible quantum-dots or nano-particles for targeted medical sensing or optical applications;
  • the development of novel approaches for imaging of materials, including biomaterials, hybrid materials or solid-state materials or
  • the advancement of machine-learning integration into available hybrid materials imaging, including the correlation between structure and functionality, causality, and time-evolution.

Research areas within Functional Biomaterials include:

  • engineering new instructive or bioactive biomaterial systems that can regulate cellular or tissue behavior and/or physiologic processes (e.g., wound healing).
  • developing innovative smart stimuli responsive biomaterials that enable feedback regulation and communication with biologic systems.
  • using state-of-the-art imaging technologies to better understand cell-biomaterial interactions and biomaterial properties and responses to external stimuli.

Qualifications

PhD in a related field is required.

Applicants should have relevant expertise in imaging, bioengineering, or wound healing/tissue regeneration.  Successful applicants will work in a multidisciplinary Institute comprised of research professors, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students with backgrounds in biomedical engineering, materials science and engineering, physics, chemistry, and developmental, cell and molecular biology. Highly motivated candidates are sought with an experimental background, a strong academic record, and with interest in working both independently and on team research. The positions are available to start immediately. The positions offer highly competitive compensation and benefits.
