Programmatic Requests Feedback Form

Each year, before Congress begins to consider appropriations for the next fiscal year, the University of Illinois System submits “programmatic requests” to the Illinois Congressional delegation articulating the University’s agency and program priorities. Many universities submit these requests, asking their delegation to weigh in with Congressional appropriations on the importance of these programs. As the University’s liaison to Congress, the Office of Governmental Relations (OGR) facilitates this process in consultation with each campus.

For the past two years we have provided individual advocacy documents for each federal agency. Those documents list the agency “request” (i.e. “U of I System Requests at least $8 billion for NSF”) and then the rest of the one/two-pager is populated with information and specific examples about how the U of I System has leveraged funding from the agency, in order to convey the importance of providing a robust funding level. This format continues to highlight the importance of more specific funding lines.

We want to make sure your unit is included, particularly with examples of recent federally funded research projects, so please respond by noon, Monday, December 16.

  • For example, Department of Energy funding is an important part of our overall research enterprise, and we want to make sure that our legislative leaders understand the role of DOE funding on our campus.
  • For example, we have been very active in the NSF's iCorps program and would like to see that continue. What programs are meaningful to your unit?
  • For example, last year the University was awarded three new Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers. These projects, funded by the NSF, play an important role in linking industry with innovations from campus researchers.
