NSF Overview

The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) mission is to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare, and to secure the national defense.  NSF is the only federal agency whose mission supports all fields of fundamental science and engineering disciplines, from mathematics, engineering and geosciences to biological, behavioral and computer sciences.  Approximately 25% of all federally supported basic research at U.S. colleges and universities is funded by NSF.
