The William T. Grant Foundation supports high-quality research focused on reducing inequality in youth outcomes and improving the use of research evidence in decisions that affect young people in the United States. Kim DuMont, Senior Vice President for Program, will present to UIC faculty and staff on the giving priorities of the William T. Grant Foundation. This presentation will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 9 — 10am, is open to all and will be held in person and via zoom. Please RSVP below.
In addition, Dr. DuMont will have short, one-on-one/small group meetings where faculty are encouraged to present proposal ideas. Dr. Dumont will not read concept papers and AV will not be available for slide presentations, but this will be an excellent opportunity to pitch potential ideas and gather feedback. These sessions are by appointment only and times are available at both Student Center East and Administrative Office Building (AOB). Please visit go.uic.edu/WTGmeetings2023 to see availability and register for an appointment. Meetings are available on both November 8 and 9:
- Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 10:10 — 11:30 am in Student Center East White Oak Room A/B
- Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 1:20 — 5:00 pm in AOB 307C
- Thursday, November 9, 2023, 9:00 — 10:40 am in Student Center East Prairie Room

Funding priorities include
Research Grants
Research grants on improving the use of research evidence: Supports research on strategies to improve the use of research evidence in ways that benefit young people ages 5-25 in the United States. WT Grant is interested in what it takes to produce useful research evidence, what it takes to get research used, and what happens when research is used.
Research grants on reducing inequality: Supports research to build, test, or increase understanding of programs, policies, or practices to reduce inequality in the academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes of young people ages 5-25 in the United States.
Scholar Awards
Supports career development for promising early-career researchers. The program funds five-year research and mentoring plans that significantly expand researchers’ expertise in new disciplines, methods, and content areas. Researchers must select one of the research focus areas (above) to frame their work. Scholars are awarded $350,000 distributed over 5 years.
Institutional Challenge Grants
Supports university-based research institutes, schools, and centers in building sustained research-practice partnerships with public agencies or nonprofit organizations in order to reduce inequality in youth outcomes. The grant requires that research institutions shift their policies and practices to value collaborative research. Institutions also need to build the capacity of researchers to produce relevant work and the capacity of agency and nonprofit partners to use research. The award provides $650,000 over three years.
