Are you currently working with mentees in your lab or plan to in the future? Do you want to be ready for the academic job market and prepare for a faculty career by building skills that will improve your future mentoring relationships?

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs has partnered with the UIC IRACDA Program to offer Research Mentor Training for Postdocs, a day-long workshop designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills to proactively and effectively navigate your mentoring relationships.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 9 am-4 pm in the UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy (833 S. Wood St.) Building, room 570. Lunch will be provided for workshop participants.

This workshop is interactive, using case studies from the evidenced-based Entering Mentoring curriculum course that is offered by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER). For more information on CIMER, visit https://cimerproject.org/.

Workshop topics will include:

  • Aligning Expectations and Assessing Competencies
  • Effective Communication
  • Fostering Independence, Self-efficacy, and Professional Development
  • Fostering Equity and Inclusion in a Research Context
  • Conflict Resolution, Feedback, Well-being
  • Articulating a Mentoring Philosophy and Plan

Postdocs who register for the program are expected to attend the whole workshop. Please DO NOT register if you don't plan to attend for the whole day, as space is extremely limited. Everyone who attends the workshop will receive a certificate of completion.

Registration is now open and spots will be filled on a rolling basis until capacity is reached. Click here to start the 2-part registration process (self-assessment + registration form).
