Department of Energy Overview
The mission of the Department of Energy (DOE) is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. DOE offers funding opportunities through multiple program offices including the Office of Science, Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), the National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA), and Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE). The majority of basic science funded by the DoE is through the Office of Science, which is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States. DOE also encompasses 17 National Labs across the country that also offer funding opportunities for research.
