Current and Pending Support NSF
The National Science Foundation (NSF) requires the submission of Current and Pending Support (aka “Other Support”) at the time of proposal submission. NSF uses the information provided in current and pending (other) support to assess:
- The capacity of the individual to carry out the research.
- Any potential scientific and budgetary overlap or duplication across projects.
- The potential the individual is overcommitting themselves with the proposed project.
In addition to ongoing projects and proposals currently under consideration from whatever source, information on this proposed project also must be provided and listed as “Pending”.
Other Support is requested for all individuals designated in an application as senior/key personnel. Senior personnel include the individuals designated by the proposer/awardee organization and approved by NSF who contribute in a substantive, meaningful way to the scientific development or execution of the proposed research. Investigators whose Other Support changes between the time of proposal submission and time of award must update their Other Support at time of award.
Detailed information about the required content for Other Support is available in PAPPG Chapter II.D.2h(ii).
NSF has partnered with the National Institutes of Health to use SciENcv: Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae as the NSF-approved format for use in preparation of the current and pending support section of an NSF proposal. Adoption of a single, common researcher profile system for federal grants reduces administrative burden for researchers.
There is no page limitation for this section of the proposal, though some fields have character limitations for consistency and equity. NSF’s Other Support instructions and formatting requirements can be accessed here.
