Current and Pending Support NIH
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) requires disclosure of Current and Pending Support (aka “Other Support), which includes all resources made available to a research in support of and/or related to any of their research endeavors, regardless of whether they have monetary value and regardless of whether they are based at UIC. Other Support is required from key personnel at the Just-in-Time (JIT) phase and as part of Just-in-Time (JIT) procedures for grant applications under review. It is also required at the time an interim or final Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR) is due for an active grant from all senior/key personnel if there has been a change in other support.
Other Support documentation should include the following:
- Sponsored projects/proposals. Entries should be grouped based on the status of support (active/pending). Total award amounts should be provided (direct + indirect). For subawards, only the total subaward amount should be included.
- External consulting, when an investigator will be involved in the design, conduct, or reporting of research as part of the consultive activities
- In-kind (e.g., office/laboratory space, equipment, supplies, employees, students supported by an outside source)
Note: Institutional resources, such as core facilities or shared equipment that are made broadly available, should be listed under Facilities and Other Resources, not Other Support.
NIH requires supporting documentation in the form of English-language versions of any Other Support from entities outside the United States, including, but not limited to:
- Contracts
- Grants, and
- Any other agreements specific to appointments, affiliations, and/or employment with an institution or entity outside the U.S.
After listing all support, investigator must indicate in the Overlap Statement whether there is any potential overlap, whether scientific, budgetary or commitment.
All investigators required to submit must now electronically sign their Other Support. Typed names and wet signatures are not acceptable. Other Support PDFs must be flattened after signature.
