FAQs
A lab or PI is not listed
If a lab space is not listed, the PI may have not yet registered their laboratory spaces. If a PI is not listed they may have not yet been added to the BioRaft system or there may be an issue with researcher classification. Please contact labsafety@uic.edu if the PI is not listed.
I am unable to register my PIs laboratory spaces
PIs must register their spaces through the registration wizard upon initial login. Job duties and access can be delegated when adding lab members to laboratory groups. This initial process cannot be completed by any other lab members.
I received the following: “Error Message: According to our Records you are not a member for a research laboratory at the institution”
PIs must add lab members to their laboratory spaces. This message indicates you have not yet been added to a lab group and will need to contact your PI.
If you are a PI and are receiving this message, you may be classified under another researcher category. Please contact labsafety@uic.edu for further assistance.
I am having trouble logging in with my netID
If you are a visiting scholar, visiting faculty, volunteer, or an external affiliate you will not be able to access BioRaft. If you are trying to complete the laboratory safety training course, please visit uictraining.org, register with the system, select Environmental Health and Safety Courses, and select 2020 Visiting Professional Researcher Training.
My training history is not appearing on my profile
We have been working diligently to upload all prior training records into the BioRaft platform. If you notice any discrepancies or missing certificates, please contact labsafety@uic.edu.
How to add multiple labs to one PI
Each lab may only have one primary room number. However, multiple spaces can be associated to a lab by sending an email to clopez21@uic.edu with the building name and room number. EHSO will update the system for you.
How do I access the COVID-19 Checklist in BioRAFT?
EHSO has created step-by-step instructions explaining how to register in BioRAFT and access the COVID-19 Lab Reopening Checklist. The tutorial, Safe Return to Research with BioRAFT, can be accessed on the EHSO website under research safety/laboratory safety/laboratory compliance documents…/BioRAFT Guidance Documents.
Where can I find answers and guidance to help complete the COVID-19 Lab Reopening Checklist?
EHSO has developed a COVID-19 Lab Safety Plan that outlines guiding principles, and safety protocols labs should have in place if they plan to reopen, when the Department Heads and College Deans decide to reopen. The plan can be found on the EHSO website under the section research safety/laboratory safety/laboratory safety plan.
How will the Department Head receive the Self-Inspection COVID-19 Lab Reopening Checklist?
EHSO will review your COVID-19 Lab Reopening Checklist and notify you via email and your department head that the plan has been approved. The Department Heads and Deans will decide with the University when to reopen research in conjunction with the State’s IL Restore Plan.
I received an email that my COVID-19 checklist is approved, what next?
EHSO has reviewed your checklist and approved the plan. EHSO has sent a communication to you and will send a follow up communication to department head that your lab is ready to reopen when the department head and dean decide with the campus.
I received an email that my COVID-19 checklist needs more information
The checklist needs more information, so EHSO can ensure you have the necessary safety protocols in place to safely reopen, when the department heads and dean approve you with the campus.
Training courses I’m required to take are classroom courses, but they are not available
EHSO announced that all annual refresher courses will count for their corresponding classroom course. Classroom courses such as HazMat Shipping, and PI and CHO Responsibilities, are in the process on being put online during the summer. An announcement will be made to those who require this training.
