1:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Location

ERF 1043

Address

Join us at the Data Science Institute Planning Workshop.   UIC is exploring the creation of a Data Science Institute.  A Planning Committee has been formed to draft a proposal, and they are asking for your input.  The goal of the workshop is for you to contribute your ideas and shape the discussion of a new institute.  Interested faculty, postdocs, staff, and students from all departments or disciplines are welcome to attend.

  • RSVP by February 11 at noon by emailing rds@uic.edu. Please use the subject “Data Science Institute Planning Workshop”.
  • To make the best use of time, we invite everyone to submit their thoughts ahead of time:
    • First, we would like to know your thoughts on what the institute can accomplish. In other words, what can be done if UIC has a Data Science Institute that cannot be done now?
    • Second, we would like your recommendations for specific thematic areas and activities of the Institute.
    • Third, we would like to know of existing UIC resources and potential opportunities for such an institute (e.g. funding sources).

Before the workshop, the Research Development Services team will review the contributions and group the thematic areas into similar topics to organize small group discussions at the workshop.  At the end of the workshop, ideas will be discussed with everyone and then taken up by the Planning Committee for further consideration.
