* Any investigator planning to submit a study involving Human Gene Transfer (HGT) or Infectious Agents must contact IBC office prior to submission of the study to discuss study scope and required documentation.  HGT and Infectious Agents used in humans are defined as follows:

  1. deliberate transfer of recombinant DNA, or DNA or RNA derived from recombinant DNA into one or more human subjects (in vivo transfer);
  2. deliberate transfer of recombinant DNA, or DNA or RNA derived from recombinant DNA into cells that will be transferred into one or more human subjects (ex vivo transfer);
  3. deliberate transfer of synthetic nucleic acid molecules, or DNA or RNA derived from synthetic nucleic acid molecules, that meet any one of the following criteria:
    1. Contain more than 100 nucleotides; or
    2. Possess biological properties that enable integration into the genome (e.g., cis elements involved in integration); or
    3. Have the potential to replicate in a cell; or
    4. Can be translated or transcribed
  4. infectious agents- any agent that is nonrecombinant in nature that is BSL 2 such as some vaccines or toxins.

** Please note that this deadline is earlier than other months due to holiday schedule.

Should you have any questions, please contact the IBC office at oacib@uic.edu
