| Mouse Handling Labs | Mouse handling labs cover basic handling and manual restraint technique training for new users and experienced individuals looking to improve their skills. Led by experienced BRL training staff, Mouse Handling Labs are offered multiple times per week, and users can enroll in multiple sessions, as needed. The BRL will provide training animals and supplies. While not a prerequisite, inexperienced mouse users are highly encouraged to participate in at least one Mouse Handling Lab prior to enrolling in the BRL’s Mouse Administration and Collection Techniques class. | Ongoing handling labs offered. | Mouse Administration and Collection Techniques Class | Previously Mouse Handling and Techniques, this training session will cover handling, oral gavage and injection/blood collection methods in mice. The BRL will provide training animals and supplies. Individuals attending are expected to participate and, at a minimum, be willing to pick up a mouse and perform an intraperitoneal injection. While not a prerequisite, inexperienced mouse users are highly encouraged to participate in at least one Mouse Handling Lab prior to enrolling in this course. | Ongoing classes offered. | Rodent Aseptic Techniques and Perioperative Care Class | The purpose of the course is to provide training on key perioperative principles for personnel conducting survival surgery with research rodents at University of Illinois Chicago. The course includes information on instrument sterilization, surgical area preparation, animal preparation, aseptic technique, and post-operative care. Prior experience in surgery is not expected. This class session includes a lecture and hands-on exercises. Participants are required to register for the class online. | Ongoing classes offered.
